This symposium will present and discuss documentary practices that involve new forms of storytelling in photography and film.Presentations by artists Brett Story and Edgar Martins will focus on the use and representation of physical space as a means of constructing social and epistemic order. The symposium will explore thematic links in the work of both practitioners in their varied encounters with cultural politics, science and the geographic imagination.

Siloquies and Soliloquies on Death, Life and Other Interludes has been shortlisted for the PhotoEspaña 2017 Photobook Prize exhibition at the Spanish National Library, Madrid, from 13 May – 27 Aug 2017.  

The Power of Images: An Iconic Selection of Photographs on Industry and Work from the MAST Collection opens  at MAST, Bologna. This extensive group show will feature recently works from the series 00:00.00 and he Poetic Impossibility to Manage the Infinite and will run from 03 May to 17 Sep 2017.

The exhibition Destinerrância: O lugar do morto é o lugar da fotografia, Edgar Martins’ largest and most comprehensive solo show to date  opens as José de Guimarães, International Art Centre, Portugal. The exhibition will run from 28 Jan – 04 Jun  2017.

Works from the series This is not a House, The Rate of Convergence of Two Opposing System Trajectories and A Metaphysical Survey of British Dwellings  integrate the group exhibition ‘Este lugar lembra-te algum sítio?’ at Círculo das Artes Plásticas Coimbra.This exhibition will from 7 – 27 Jan 2017.

Siloquies and Soliloquies on Death, Life and Other Interludes is presented Art Basel Miami Beach 2016 at Cristina Guerra Contemporary Art (stand  J8). Other artists feature  include: Matt Mullican, Julião Sarmento, Lawrence Weiner, Erwin Wurm and others. The fair will run from 29 Nov – 04 Dec 2016.

Edgar Martins’ new book Siloquies and Soliloquies on Death and Life & Other Interludes is  launched at Paris Photo 2016. Book signings will take place @ Melanie Rio Gallery, stand A10 (4-5pm) &  Purdy Hicks Gallery, stand D37 (5-6pm).

Works  from the Novo Banco collection are included in the exhibition Da Fuga e do Encontro: Inversões do Olhar, curated by Sérgio Fazenda Rodrigues. Featured artists include Edgar Martins Candida Hofer, Elger Esser, Gregpry Crewdson, Julião Sarmento, Matt Mullican, Richard Misrach, William Eggleston, Wolfganf Tilmans. This exhibition will run from 10 Nov 2016 –  31 May 2017.

Images from the series This is not a House, A Metaphysical Survery of British Dwellings and Reluctant Monoliths integrate the exhibition O Estado da Arte com a Arquitectura at Centro para os Assuntos da Arte e Arquitectura (CAAA). This exhibition runs from 22 Oct – 26 Nov 2016.

Siloquies and Soliloquies on Death and Life & Other Interludes opens  at Cristina Guerra Contemporary Art, Lisbon. This show represents the second phase of an overarching exhibition project which was also presented at MAAT (Museu of Art, Architecture and Technology), Lisbon (Jun-Oct 2016).
